EL ÚLTIMO VIRREY DE LA INDIA -VICEROY’S HOUSE
(EN CASTELLANO DEBAJO) I read in the credits at the end of the movie that it was partially inspired by the book by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins, "Freedom at Midnight" (1975). The film is an historical portrait on how the independence of India was negotiated and, with it, the partition of the Crown's Jewel in two countries: Pakistan and India, as we know it nowadays ( we shall leave aside Nepal and other independent countries in the Himalayas and, within Pakistan, we shall include East Pakistan, nowadays Bangladesh). One of the merits of the movie is that it was directed by a Hindi lady, Ms. Gurinder Chadha, but, unlike "Gandhi" (1982), it shows a rather neutral point of view when describing the different characters ( whether British, Hindus or Pakistani) that populate the screen.
