This summer I saw the above, Hitchcock's masterpiece, for the first time at the movies, at my beloved Phenomena cinema. By the first time, what I mean is that previously I had just seen it on TV, on Video VHS (not even DVD), dubbed in Spanish, but not on the big screen. Well, it's worth the trouble of seeing it at the movies. At Phenomena, on its huge screen, “Psycho” had a "square" format, neither panoramic nor rectangular.        At the beginning, there's the typewritten mention on the screen of Phoenix, the date and the time of the day. This is something that's been copied in movies and books endlessly and still is, as a way to create tension. But it was Hitch's idea. Even at this small detail he was avant-garde. Much of the merit of this movie, in my opinion, lies in the sound track. The music is twisted, like that of a tormented soul, by Bernard Herrmann, the same guy who made it for "Vertigo".
